Most Of Us Learn Our Management Skills By Trying Not To Make All The Mistakes Our Previous Bosses Made With Us

But the struggle is real.

Responsibilities are mounting. Work cultures are evolving.

And your staff might be ready to jump ship without you ever knowing until the resignation letter hits your inbox.

75% of employees say their bosses are the primary reason they leave their jobs, according to various workplace studies.

65% of startup failures are attributed to people-related issues, including team misalignment, poor communication, leadership challenges, and problems with hiring and culture.

  • A majority of people quietly hate weekly catchups
  • More employees want to be ‘empowered’ but that creates risk
  • KPIs don’t always connect with daily activity
  • Managing people well is always harder than it looks

Our research finds that...

A Magic Wand For Managers

The Cyclic Planner is our first product after a decade of providing client services, consulting and various forms of research.

It's the most light-touch approach to management you will ever find.

Staff feel totally respected for the ownership and decision-making authority they are empowered with.

Every project benefits from your direct oversight for confident control and diligent risk management.

Any attempted use of workflow tools (such as Clickup, Monday.com, Jira, Notion, etc) is enhanced.

Cyclic Planning Unifies 3 Cutting Edge Management Methods

1

Micro-Planning

Few of us enjoy long planning sessions. With the Cyclic Planner you plan in tiny bite-sizes pieces while making real-world progress towards success.

Supplements whatever you already use for team task management with a breakthrough in adaptive planning.

2

Micro-Reviews

Cyclic Planning seamlessly incorporates progress and status reviews — you will barely notice they are happening, and nor will your team.

Keeps your entire teams plans fresh and nimble with perfectly prioritized steps that adapt  to changing company or market conditions.

3

Learning-Loops

The collective brain of your team becomes primed for  making rapid adjustments based on new learnings and ongoing results.

The same adaptation skills taught to Jet Fighter Pilots (known as the OODA Loop: Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) for responding to change and opportunity with speed and confidence.

Initiative Templates

Here is where you set the overall strategic direction for one or more big project areas.

Including Purpose, Prize, Risks, Milestones, and General Approach. A more advanced Initiatives template is also included in the Cyclic Planner, for use as per your preference.

Simple prompt questions along with one page of guidance will set you on the path to mastering major initiatives.

The Go Template

Here’s where your day-to-day activities get planned.

The painstakingly selected sections of the Go template include: Target, Change, Challenge, Expectation, and Action.

Make no mistake, when you understand how to apply this as a learning-loop you will tap into your highest capacity for precise progress towards any KPI.

Question prompts and guidance provided in the planner ensures optimum use of the Go templates for focus and control. All is revealed inside the planner.

Review Templates

On the frequency that feels right to you, use the Review template to keep track of progress and draw out any limiting factors that need to be dealt with.

Sections include: Observations, Progress, Limiters, New Initiative Ideas, and a Radar Diagram for self-assessment across 6 criteria.

A guide built into the planner will give you everything needed to maximize the advantage of the review system when combined with the warp-and-woof of the Go template and the Initiative template.

Proposal Templates

Divided into two separate templates: Opportunity and Approach. The first is used to achieve buy-in for the problem space of a proposal. Only once that is agreed does the Approach template become warranted in order to agree the solution space.

In this way, disagreements are reduced, and everyone stays on the same page as you progress from proposal concept through to proposal implementation.

Shown above is the first template in our 2-part proposal sequence.

Other Sections Include:

  • Impact — Here you’ll find space to brainstorm on values and vision, the impacts you seek to create, and the talents you’ll need to cultivate. Powerful, decisive, straight to the point.
  • Schedule — Just in case you want to use your Cyclic Planner as a daily scheduler — In this section you get both typical and not-so-typical weekly planners, along with month planners and an annual calendar — all hyperlinked to software calendars (Google Calendar, iCal, Office)
  • Notes, Guides, Templates & Archives — Provided at the back of Cyclic Planner to round out the carefully crafted experience for precise planning and activity management.

By gaining insight into what I truly wanted for myself and not just reaching and achieving goals by society’s standards, I have actualized many experiences that would have taken multiple lifetimes.

I’ve become a completely different person that I don’t even understand myself. Complete calmness. Less of a worrier.

..I keep reading all of these crazy books talking about writing down goals and such. My favorite of all time is the Science of Getting Rich.

For some reason my ego thinks that it seems to easy, to good to be true, you know. To just get a clear vision of want you want. I find it hard to really focus on my objectives.

Usually, I get glimpses of them, during a certain song or something, but never for long.

The questionnaires are a project.

I seem to be able to get to deeper states of focus when I do the questionnaires. I guess because I got something to finish. I don’t really know. But they do good for me.

I need to live my dreams, and the questionnaires help me focus on the goals and the steps to complete them.

Thanks Gav, great stuff

My email address gets hammered with spam and worthless offers, but your products are worth 100, 1000; maybe even a million times anything I’ve seen advertised in my email inbox.

I was intrigued by what appeared to be something different and perhaps more effective then the GTD [Getting Things Done by David Allen] approach.

It seems your system has a more organic/natural and complete feel to it.

Richard

Your principles and techniques go very well along with Napoleon Hill's and complete them. I went through... and I'm following it to the letter. So far so good.

Case Study

The Situation

Crypto debit card provider WirexApp had 5 staff in London HQ with a development team based in Kiev when I joined in March 2017. They had acquired 300k users in 4 years and just gained investment from SBI Group Japan. I joined as Marketing Manager and was soon appointed to Head of Marketing tasked with building a team for growth.

The Approach

From prior experience reporting to the Chairman of Database Group as Head of Marketing for Email Service, I wanted to empower my Wirex team as much as possible.

...I attempted Ken Blanchard / Bill Oncken’s approach, popularized as 'The One Minute Manager'. (recommended reading).

...I also explored Constraints Management by Eli Goldratt... Structural Tension by Robert Fritz... and Learning Organization theory by Peter Senge in The Fifth Discipline, and more.

...But my enlightenment came when I discovered a management technique taught by Toyota consultants.

A kind of coaching style that empowers staff with a controlled and practical learning curve towards achieving KPIs.

Recruitment took up a huge portion of my time. Each hire added new complexities, relationships to support, adjustments in everyone’s priorities.

In the teams view I was probably scrambling.

To me, I was discovering the cyclic planning system in a catbird seat overlooking product analytics, pulling the strings on the full customer lifecycle via CRM workflows (retention and revenue), community development (organic social), and performance marketing (paid acquisition).

The Result

I would hope the team forgives my apparent inconsistencies, but the results spoke for themselves.

Success after success in quick succession, we began to scale. I was added to a 7 person Senior Management Team.

With 18 staff in the marketing team, and 150 staff companywide, we grew to 1.5M users in 11 months, profitably.

Our Customer Acquisition Cost was so good, along with the payback period (how long it takes to recoup the acquisition cost in revenue) that we gained follow-on investment only a year after the first raise.

But alas — the rapid growth curve came to an abrupt halt when our card issuer WaveCrest lost its license with VISA, but that’s story for another time.

Until Wirex, I was a digital marketing adept. After Wirex, I was fascinated by the constraints of coordinated planning for scalable performance.

My quest continues to this day, with research into decentralized governance communities, (known in the web3 industry as DAO's, or decentralized autonomous organizations).

The Cyclic Planner is the culmination of a 15-year career, reducing complexity of planning, stakeholder coordination, and growth down to its most essential components of micro-planning and micro-reviews for POOGI (process of ongoing improvement).

His mentorship and generosity is unmatched

We are extremely grateful to have Gavriel interface with, and guide our senior leadership team to increasing levels of success.
